Overview

The Advantech WLNNA Series Evaluation Kit is a development platform designed for testing and evaluating Airborne Enterprise Device WLNNA series server modules from Advantech. These modules are embedded Wi-Fi engines that can be integrated into various applications requiring reliable wireless connectivity. The kit includes an evaluation board equipped with the WLNNA module, along with all the essential cables, antennas, and power supply. This allows designers to easily configure, test, and observe the functionalities of the WLNNA module. It features the essential headers and connectors for a smooth interface with external modules.

Flexible Evaluation and Testing Interface for Rapid Development

Thanks to a full-featured board, the Advantech WLNNA Series Evaluation kit allows developers to rapidly prototype and test WLNNA series modules. The board features the necessary buttons, LEDs, connectors, and headers to allow seamless connectivity with other WLNNA modules.

It’s an IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n compliant evaluation board that operates on both 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz Wi-Fi bands. With a miniaturized form factor, it’s easy to carry around and install at tricky locations when used as an end product.

The kit allows the developer to change configuration and functionality, so it can be used as a different networking device according to the required applications. The developers can change the configuration of the device to work as one of the following:

  • Router

  • Bridge

  • Serial Device Server

  • Access Point

  • UART

  • SPI

Moreover, it supports RS232/422/485 communication which allows it to interface with various external devices at a high-speed connection. It also supports 10/100 Ethernet. The kit features a simplified web interface access for developers to access configurations, status, and maintenance. Also, there are light indicators for instant feedback and debugging needs.

The kit operates at a 5V DC supply with a dedicated option for batteries or a 2.1mm barrel jack cable.

Versatile Kit With Robust Hardware and Support

The Advantech WLNNA Series Evaluation Kit features an extensive range of peripherals and hardware tools to provide a robust development experience.

The main board features the Airborne Module Evaluation Circuit Board Assembly, the PCB that contains the essential circuitry and electronics to support Wi=Fi connectivity and testing. It provides the platform for connecting modules and I/O devices to be tested.

Mounted to the circuit board assembly is the AIrborne BB-WLNNA-EK-DP551 module. It’s a compact, self-contained wireless engine module with advanced Wi-Fi capabilities and supports dual-band Wi-Fi operation. Moreover, it supports various security protocols such as WPA, WPA2, WEP, and many others.

The evaluation kit also features a 50Ω omnidirectional antenna with dedicated UFL coaxial connectors that can provide a gain of 5.5 dBi and 4.1 dBi for 5GHz and 2.4GHz bands respectively.

Also, the kit includes various connectors such as

  • DB9/DB9 serial connector

  • USB to serial adapter

  • Cat5 Ethernet Cable

The kit provides the essential tools to prototype and test applications requiring WiFI connectivity, so it has extensive applications in networking, robotics, industrial machines, IoT devices, home security, and smart home devices.
